As a second year student I haven’t had much of an opportunity to work in industry. However that is not to say I haven’t worked before. Listed below are various work opportunities I have had or will have soon (within 6 months) and each taught me something different.
Hitachi Automotive- ADAS Intern (May 2018-August 2018)
Extensive Summary:
Working in the ADAS group my primary responsibility was to provide an evaluation on the third generation stereo camera. During my work I was responsible for generating test routes to test LKS and TSR algorithms as well as researching these algorithms for possible improvements. I was then tasked with the evaluation and testing of the LKS and obstacle detection algorithms on the third generation stereo camera. I was then to summarize the recognition results and compile a problem report for the various test conditions and provide solutions which would be used by the Japan-side for further development. I then continued my work by capturing data for functions that will come out on more advanced stereo cameras. I accomplished this by isolating instance scenes and identifying the instance scene where I then compiled a spreadsheet of instance scenes. This work was very important to Hitachi Automotive Systems as it helped greatly further he development of the TSR and LKS/LDW/LRS algorithms as engineers were able to imitatively start fixing problems as they were being identified. Saving both time and money. I was also able to provide recommendations to the algorithms that greatly reduced complexity and processing time. Due to being able to complete all tasks for generation 3 stereo camera evaluation I was then able to begin working on generation 4 stereo camera evaluation. This was done by taking a long distance trip across the USA in order to test capabilities of the new stereo camera. My primary role was to again gather data and isolate failure scenes and other key features that the camera was responsible for detecting. I was also responsible for troubleshooting many problems that arose during the testing. This internship provided valuable experience in ADAS and automotive engineering. It also taught me many things such as data collecting and analysis, troubleshooting skills, proper handling and test procedures of ADAS Equipment, and the future of ADAS technologies.
